CCO Member, Andreas Ringstad and Associate Lauren Brown obtained a pre-trial dismissal of all claims brought against the firm’s client. The plaintiff was arrested for failing to pay for goods taken from the client’s business. After resolving the criminal charges, the plaintiff sued the client in state court for negligence, malicious prosecution, intentional infliction of emotional distress, defamation, and invasion of privacy. After removal, the Federal Court granted Campbell Conroy & O’Neil’s motion to dismiss all claims and ruled that an employer has no duty to train employees how to report a suspected crime or how to initiate criminal proceedings.
