BIOGRAPHY
John Penhallegon brings nearly 40 years experience to the defense of individuals and corporations in civil litigation. His litigation experience includes professional liability, medical malpractice, medical device, product liability, drug and pharmaceutical, automotive, insurance coverage, and toxic exposure claims. John has served as lead trial counsel in multiple state and federal court actions as well as appellate counsel in matters pending before intermediate and final disposition appellate courts. Whether in or out of the courtroom John provides clients with skill, experience, and sound practical judgment.
John is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a Member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, and a Member of the Defense Research Institute. He is also a 30 year Member of the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) where he served on the Board of Directors and as Chair of the Medical Defense Committee. In addition, John was a member of the 2005 IADC Trial Academy Faculty and later served as Director-Elect (2013) and Director (2014) of the Academy. John has been listed as a Maryland “Super Lawyer” in Medical Malpractice Defense annually since 2006.
Invited to speak to a number of legal professional organizations, John has presented programs to the IADC at Annual, Mid-Year, and Regional meetings as well as to the Maryland Association of Defense Trial Counsel. Medical professional organizations have sought his insight on risk management, managed care liability issues, maternal-child health, imaging liabilities, and witness preparation. John is published in the Defense Counsel Journal, The Maryland Bar Journal, and the University of Baltimore Law Review.
In the community John has served on the Board of Directors of the National Kidney Foundation (Maryland) and the University of Baltimore Alumni Association Board of Governors. He is a Judge for the American Mock Trial Association.
